About the Item

This late 19th-century Bukharan silk brocade robe embodies the sophistication of Central Asian textile art and centuries of cultural exchange. Woven in sumptuous silk brocade in radiant tones of gold and raspberry, its surface is covered with stylized floral motifs that reflect aristocratic taste and exceptional craftsmanship. The wide conical cut reveals the full splendor of the weave, while the woven cotton lining and finely woven cotton borders demonstrate meticulous attention to detail. Rooted in the Ottoman kamha weaving tradition—luxurious brocade made with gold and silver threads—this technique later spread to Central Asia through trade and diplomacy. In Bukhara, artisans reinterpreted it with distinctive local colors and motifs, merging imperial grandeur with regional aesthetics. Far more than a garment, this robe stands as a woven testament to artistic refinement and cross-cultural dialogue within the Islamic world. Dimensions: Length (neck to hem): 127 cm (48.8 in) — Width (sleeve to sleeve): 190 cm (74.8 in) The mounting service — which involves hand-stitching the robe onto a linen support for preservation — will be provided at no additional cost. Final framing can be arranged by the buyer with a local framer according to their preferred style and materials. This option is recommended for long-term preservation and display, though the robe remains fully wearable if preferred.
