About the Item

This late 19th-century quilted silk kaftan is a radiant example of Central Asian textile artistry. Woven in shades of magenta, green, and gold, its surface displays intricate vegetal patterns that shimmer with movement and light. The composition—ornate yet harmonious—reflects the refined balance of geometry and elegance characteristic of the region’s finest textile work. The interior is lined with patterned cotton and accented with vibrant ikat panels, a detail that deepens its visual and cultural richness. A faint mark on the lower corner does not detract from the robe’s overall integrity. Its vivid palette and technical refinement make it a rare surviving example of late 19th-century craftsmanship, carrying within it the layered memory of artistic and cultural exchange across the Islamic world. Dimensions: Length (neck to hem): 125 cm (49.2 in) Width (sleeve to sleeve): 185 cm (72.8 in) The mounting service — which involves hand-stitching the robe onto a linen support for preservation — will be provided at no additional cost. Final framing can be arranged by the buyer with a local framer according to their preferred style and materials. This option is recommended for long-term preservation and display, though the robe remains fully wearable if preferred.
