About the Item
This striking silk and metal-thread brocade woman’s coat from late 19th-century Uzbekistan features dramatic stylized botanical motifs in green, pink, and gold against a deep purple ground. The bold scale and dynamic movement of the pattern reflect the cosmopolitan textile aesthetics favored in elite urban dress of the period.
The coat is lined in silk on cotton ikat, adding both structure and visual richness to the interior. The edges are finished with a traditional woven cotton trim that complements the vibrancy of the brocade surface.
Dimensions:
Length (Neck to Hem): 142 cm (54.3 in)
Width (Sleeve to Sleeve): 144 cm (56.7 in)
The mounting service — which involves hand-stitching the robe onto a linen support for preservation — will be provided at no additional cost. Final framing can be arranged by the buyer with a local framer according to their preferred style and materials. This option is recommended for long-term preservation and display, though the robe remains fully wearable if preferred.
