About the Item

Antique Suzani Textile – Prayer Arch Design Origin: Central Asia (likely Uzbekistan) Dimensions: Approx. 19th century This exquisite antique Suzani textile showcases a rare and elegant prayer-arch (mihrab) composition, a format traditionally associated with devotional use. The central plain field in a soft beige or camel tone creates a serene visual space, framed by intricate floral and vine motifs hand-embroidered in vibrant silk threads. The borders feature a repeating boteh (paisley) and flower design in jewel-toned shades of red, green, blue, and soft pinks, with scrolling vines that add dynamic movement. The triangular arch at the top, adorned with rich detailing, suggests spiritual symbolism, making this Suzani particularly rare and museum-worthy. Entirely hand-embroidered on cotton, this Suzani represents the artistry of 19th-century Uzbek needlework, typically created by women as part of their dowries. It is a magnificent collector’s piece that blends heritage, symbolism, and decorative charm, perfect for display as a wall hanging, bed cover, or cultural centerpiece.
