Vintage Indonesian Kain Panjang Batik Tulis Pagi-sore Buket, Demak, Java 1950.
A fine hand drawn wax resist painting by canting on cotton of a traditional Javanese multi-colored bouquet theme that is reversible in the design with the diagonal line dividing the textile in half. The pattern with flora and fauna details is rendered predominantly in curry yellow with synthetic dyes on a white reserve ground. The complicated layout is designed as two garments, depending on which direction the pattern is wrapped. The angled borders both with floral blossom designs. The background on one half is reserve pinpoints and meandering stems, while the other is on a lattice lozenge background.
Condition: Excellent.
Size: 42 inches x 92.5 inches (106.7 x 235cm).
Weight: 8.3 ounces (238 grams).
Circa 1950.
