About the Item
A fabulous French antique gilt-bronze adjustable (33" to 45" long) three-piece suite fireguard dating to the 19th century.
Finished in refined, elegant and luxurious Louis XV style, the chenets with thier pierced scrolling decoration evolving into acanthus leaves are a perfect embodiment of the whimsical Rococo taste.
Having an ornate sculptural silhouette, featuring two gilded acanthus leaf firedogs - chenets embellished with delicate scrolls, trailing flowers, berries, and ivy, over stepped shaped base. The two andirons are connected by a gilt metal fire fender adorned with fancy ormolu scrolling foliate centerpiece mount atop decorative running ornamentation. Signed, having various markings to the backs, including "MT" (unknown maker), model "321", and "403" "3"

As with all antiques, this remarkable set may retain minor antique character marks, including scattered spots of oxidation, and/or patinated finish, all consistent with age and use, and nothing that detracts from the aesthetics or functionality, but only adds to the rich antique character and charm.
