About the Item
A stunning pair of modernist andirons by legendary designer Donald Deskey. They were made by Bennett in the United States, circa 1950. The andirons are polished brass with an amorphic sculptural foot in black iron. Their effortlessly chic aesthetic remains as timeless and modern looking today as when it was created more than sixty years ago. The pieces are marked with Bennett's proprietary fire stamp, and are in very good vintage condition.
The brass was sent out for restoration so it gleams as brightly as the day these andirons were made. These are a stunning example of the Deskey/Bennett partnership.
Donald Deskey was a leading industrial designer in the United States. From his first designs for department store window displays to his sumptuous furnishings for the interiors of Radio City Music Hall, Deskey designed many of the icons that define an American modern style. His designs are still highly collectable today and look as fresh and modern as they did in the 1930-1050s.

- Condition:Repaired: The brass on the andirons was sent out for restoration. It is in like new condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The portion of the andiron that was used in a fireplace shows signs of use (see images). It does not detract at all from the forward facing Donald Deskey design.
