The stunning appearance of the rosettes that are hand carved into the panel are amazing. The panel seem like it was part of a larger architectural setting and the appraiser wonders if it might have been part of a confessional, although the holes may be a little to large for that.
But this is an antique architectural carved and parcel gilt pierced wood panel that is
American or European, probably late 19th Century.
The rectangular panel with molded frame with inset pierced upper panel with a grill with rosettes and other applied foliate decoration, the inset lower panel with spade-and-dot piercing. Unmarked.
Dimensions: 23-1/2 inches tall, 34-1/2 inches wide, 2-1/2 inches deep
CONDITION: This presents beautifully, but there are some minor splits and separations in the wood.
