Antique Full Size Carved Mahogany Caryatid Figure Of A Classical Woman c1880 Measures - 46 3/4" x 13 1/2" x 8 1/2" An antique carved mahogany architectural caryatid features the depiction of a full size woman in classical garb including a floral crown. The caryatid known for use in architecture as a supporting column or pillar, often draped in flowing robes and resting an entablature on her head, most famously seen on the Erechtheion in Athens, Greece, representing "maidens of Caryae". The piece is unsigned.
