About the Item
A vibrant Safavid cuerda seca pottery tile from Isfahan, Iran, dating to the 17th century. This finely crafted example showcases the hallmark characteristics of Safavid artistry, featuring richly saturated colours—deep cobalt blue, turquoise, green, black, and white—set against a striking golden yellow ground. The composition displays flowing vegetal arabesques and stylised blossoms, rendered with the distinctive raised black lines created by the cuerda seca technique, preventing colours from blending during firing.
The tile retains its beautiful surface with charming age-related wear, presenting minor edge losses and glaze imperfections consistent with its age and historical use. The reverse shows the expected old, unglazed ceramic body with patination.
A highly decorative and culturally significant piece, perfect for collectors of Islamic art, museum-quality interiors, or as a focal accent in a curated display.
