About the Item
Whether you are a set decorator in need of period-appropriate courtroom accoutrement, a builder of one-of-a-kind furniture, or simply a lover of architectural salvage - you'll find the decorative potential is seemingly limitless for this awesome oak witness stand.
This piece was installed in a New England courthouse around 1900, where it remained in daily use for over 100 years until recent renovations brought it to the salvage market. The design evokes a Classical solemnity which no doubt echoed the formal tone of the courtroom, with its square fluted posts and stark latticework panels.
With a little work, this piece could make a stunning wine bar or settee. One could even imagine the latticework panels functioning as true trellises, snaked with leafy vines to create a one-of-a-kind piece of living furniture.
