About the Item
A decorative and charming Italian Baroque basin, crafted in fine white Carrara marble with fine hand-carved detailing throughout both the basin and pedestal.
The basin is adorned with carved acanthus leaf motifs in true Baroque style. The bust is sculpted in white marble – a rarer variant that adds further elegance to the piece.
The pedestal is shaped as a sphinx with a lion’s body, female bust, and wings – a motif drawing on classical mythology and typical Baroque symbolism.
The basin dates from the 18th century, while the pedestal is likely from the early 19th century. The two elements have remained united as one piece for many years.
