About the Item
New finds from the lumber dearer's house, near Yoshino, Nara pref., Japan.
This door - not sliding door, was made for exterior door or the garden furniture circa 1870s-1920s, Meiji to Taisho period.
Made of well-aged Yoshino Cedar solid wood board, using the part with dynamic grains, as a wabi sabi taste decoration. (even some small pieces are nailed to the base plate to prevent falling down at some time in the past)
Yoshino Cedar is a well-known, the area's specialty premium wood, probably chosen by the house owner family, who was running the lumber dealer.
The top area is covered with copper with patina, to prevent the damage by the moisture. The structural parts are made of the thick lumbers, it's still tough enough for actual use, and the hinges
locks are able to use too.
The lock stile side of the bottom rail had been a bit cut, or lost to fit the floor at some time in the past, so the bottom isn't straight towards the hinge stile.
* while photo shooting, we've put the vintage iron gear under the lock stile (that's where had been cut) to adjust the height. shown in the photos.
Actual item weight : 33.96 lb (15.4 kg)
