About the Item

An antique 17th century oak plank door, salvaged from Wingfield castle. Suitable for interior use, this antique door tells the story of craftsmanship in England circa 1650. With a bare natural oak finish, this door features a three plank construction with horizontal bracing to one side and original iron strap hinges. At over 350 years old, it has kept its original character and historical look, perfect for a period property to compliment other desirable uneven architectural features. Several historical latch fittings can still be seen etched into the oak; the sixth having been turned upside down. This door dates from the 17th century, when Charles II (1630 - 1685) ruled Great Britain from 1660 to 1685. He was restored to the throne after years of exile during the Puritan Commonwealth. The years of his reign are known as the Restoration period due to King Charles II's ability to steer his country through the struggles between Anglicans, Catholics, and Dissenters. This door is a piece of English heritage from this period that lives on today.
