About the Item
An exceptionally rare and authentic 14th-century or earlier Gothic French oak door, originating from a medieval French castle in the Côtes du Rhône -wine region of south of France. Crafted from solid oak with an impressive thickness of 12 cm, this remarkable piece retains its original hand-hammered wrought iron hardware, including large strap hinges, bard wear, and a fully functional locking mechanism complete with its original medieval key.
Despite its age, the door remains in very good condition, a testament to the durability of both the oak and the craftsmanship of the
ironwork. The door measures 122 cm in height, a relatively low proportion that indicates its historical use for wine or food storage, making it an especially desirable piece for collectors of medieval artefacts or connoisseurs of wine culture.
Weighing approximately 70–80 kg, this substantial and atmospheric door would make a striking addition to a private collection, or could be imaginatively repurposed as a wine cellar door, a feature for a secret room, or a centrepiece in a historically inspired interior.
Such pieces are exceptionally rare and difficult to find, particularly with original, hand-forged ironwork and key intact. A true treasure for those passionate about Gothic architecture and medieval history.
The stone structure surrounding the door is not included.
