About the Item
An exceptional and rare 17th century large iron box lock, showcasing the ornate craftsmanship of the Late Renaissance- Early Baroque period. Entirely hand-forged in steel and iron, this remarkable piece is both visually striking and mechanically impressive.
The lock features richly detailed decoration, most notably the Eye of Providence (a triangle enclosing an eye) prominently placed on the faceplate. This powerful symbol- later adopted by the Freemasons- suggests the lock may have secured an important chamber within a castle or palace, imbuing the piece with both historical and symbolic significance.
Equipped with its original spring-type rim lock mechanism and original key, the lock remains in fully operational condition, a rarity for its age. The exceptional preservation of both function and decorative detail further distinguishes this piece among early European security devices.
A museum-quality example of Baroque metalwork, this lock is not only a functional artefact but also a statement of status and symbolism from the 17th century.
Condition: Excellent, fully operational, with original key
This is a collector’s piece of the highest order, combining technical mastery, decorative artistry, and a rare symbolic motif.
