About the Item
16th Century French Renaissance period fireback with the Arms of France. Coat of arms of the house of Bourbon, an originally French royal house that became a major dynasty in Europe. It delivered kings for Spain (Navarra), France, both Sicilies and Parma. Bourbon kings ruled France from 1589 up to the French revolution as well some short periods thereafter. The coat of arms consists of a crown with three Fleurs de Lys (French Lilies), symbolizing purity and royalty. It is flanked by palm branches which stand for victory. The date of production, 1600, is also cast in the fireback.
The fireback is made of cast iron and has a black/pewter patina. The condition is good, no cracks.
