About the Item
17th century French Louis XIV period fireback with the Arms of France. A coat of arms of the House of Bourbon, an originally French royal house that became a major dynasty in Europe. The house delivered kings for Spain (Navarra), France, both Sicilies and Parma. Bourbon kings ruled France from 1589 up to the French revolution as well some short periods thereafter. The coat of arms consists of 3 fleurs de lys (French Lilies), symbolizing purity and a crown, which stand for royalty. The palm leaves symbolize victory. The year of production, 1675, is also cast in the fireback.
The fireback has a black / pewter patina. It is in a good condition and fit for use in the fireplace.
