About the Item

Mid-Century Modern design fireplace tools by California designer Mel Bogart for Stewart-Winthrop. Solid iron with solid brass discs and ball, includes hearth broom, poker, shovel and stand. It was specified for use in multiple Case Study Houses, including Number 17 by Craig Ellwood. It was also selected by MoMA New York for their prestigious Good Design Exhibition 1955. Mel Bogart was an American furniture designer who lived from 1922 to 2007. He is known for his innovative designs that combined art and furniture, creating unique and sculptural pieces. Bogart studied art and design at the Chicago Art Institute before serving in the United States Army during World War II.
