19th Century French Cast Iron Fireside Stick Stand A highly elegant and exceptionally detailed French cast iron stick stand, dating from the late 19th Century, circa 1880. Crafted from solid, heavy cast iron, the stand features a tall, commanding profile defined by a central columnar shaft adorned with distinct neo-classical and foliate ornamentation. The piece is proudly topped with a an intricate scrollwork heart-shaped ring, lending a noble and unmistakably French pedigree. The central support is delicately ribbed and punctuated by an ornate knop featuring scrolling foliage and anthemion-style elements in high relief, firmly placing the design within the popular revival styles of the late 19th century, particularly Neo-Classicism and Napoleon III aesthetics. The oval base is both functional and highly decorative, serving as a spacious removable drip tray to catch water. It is beautifully cast with symmetrical scrollwork, shell-like fluting, and a central foliate cartouche, demonstrating the superior quality and attention to detail of the French foundry worker's art. The stand retains its appealing original or professionally restored black finish, which has developed a rich, age-appropriate patina consistent with over a century of use, adding depth and genuine period character.
