A very fine pair of French 18th century Louis XVI period Dore bronze and handwrought polished steel fireplace tools.
The circular handle of each piece is hand chiselled to superb detail of the kind usually reserved for fine French candelabra, undoubtedly commissioned by a connoisseur of exacting standards. The gilding is in excellent condition, further affrming the quality and workmanship. Handwrought steel elements are equally impressive- the color is an elegant silvery grey which gleams beautifully in the firelight and offers an attractive contrast to the rich gold of the handles. The sound of the steel ringing is akin to fine crystal.

Large and impressive pair of 19th century Louis XIV style gilt bronze andirons.
A festive fire is one of the great pleasures of winter and the warm glow of firelight on the fine French gilt bronze of these magnificent andirons will transform any room. Each composed of a circular reeded plinth topped with a handsome urn shaped finial and resting on a superb scrolled base with a central sea shell motif, acanthus leaf sides and beautifully modelled pomegranite form feet. Acorn shaped log stops.
Original gilding, fine details of the decorative elements and substantial original log supports.
