About the Item

An antique French brass cooking pot with a carrying handle for suspending over the fire, dating to the second half of the 19th century. The exterior has a beautiful patina, darkened and textured by time and use, accented with blooms of turquoise verdigris around the copper lugs. Look closely to see the “zipper” on the side where the metal was rolled and welded together to form the cauldron. Today the pot could be used for an attractive catchall around the home and hearth, as a planter, or displayed to admire this culinary relic–its aged finish will only improve with time.
