About the Item

An antique French brass cooking pot with handle for suspending over the fire, dating to the second half of the 19th century. The exterior has a beautiful patina including a hammered texture by time and use, accented with blooms of turquoise verdigris. Look closely to see the seam where the metal was rolled and welded together to form the cauldron and appreciate the sculptural qualities of the iron lugs to connect the handle. Today the pot could be used for an attractive catchall around the home and hearth, as a planter, or displayed to admire this culinary relic–its aged finish will only improve with time.
