About the Item
Beautiful 18th century French Louis XV Period fireback with the arms of France and two pillars topped by Fleurs de Lys (French Lillies). The arms of France include the crown (symbolizing royalty), three Fleurs de Lys (symbolizing the purity of the aristocracy) and olive branches (symbolizing peace and victory). The date of production 1784 is also cast in the fireback. The coat of arms has been truncated during the French Revolution.
The fireback is made of cast iron and has a black / pewter patina. The condition is good, no cracks.
