About the Item
A rare pair of covered brass coal scuttles of superior quality. The helmet-shaped scuttles are fitted to their original stands which connect to a turned wooden handle. When the handle is lowered, it raises the lid on the scuttle. The lids feature Neo-Classical repousse decoration in the Adam style featuring a central urn surrounded by bows, swags, and scrolling foliate motifs. The feet of the stands are modeled as bird heads.
