About the Item
A generous sized 19th Century Victorian
Calacatta marble fireplace surround. The
thick square edged shelf over an
unadorned frieze, flanked by wide and tall
jambs with intermittent block and splayed
moulding at the base frieze line level, all
resting on splayed foot block work.
The marble veining on this piece flows
well, showing all the elements of this
luxurious marble, this piece would be at
home in a contemporary or period setting.
English 1880c
Fire opening size: 930mm high x 890mm
wide shown in photo. (max fire opening
width on this piece is 1000mm) the width
can be increased or decreased to suit.
Each leg width: 180mm

Calacatta Marble:
Italian Calacatta Marble is distinctive with
its thick, bold veining. Rather than the
plentiful soft veins of a marble like
Carrara, Calacatta's hallmark is fewer but
more dramatic and unstructured veins.
Overall the color has a global appeal with
designers and architects due to its
soothing white background, veining, and
color tone. (The whiter the background
the more expensive and desirable these
marbles get.)
