A finely carved fireplace surround in richly veined red marble, distinguished by its elegant serpentine frieze with a central cartouche motif. The jambs are gently shaped and terminate to a substantial footblock.
A distinctive French design that emerged during the mid-18th century, named after Madame de Pompadour — a major patron of the decorative arts during the reign of Louis XV.
The warm tones of the marble are accentuated by delicate white veining, lending depth to the piece.
