A striking 19th century French Regency Louis XVI style fire surround in Swedish Green / Kolmården Marble. A skilfully carved frieze adorned with ribbons and foliage leads way to square paterae facing outwards catching the eye from all directions.
The panelled returns on the bracketed jambs show off the matched veining throughout the deep green marble. This stunning panoramic marble fireplace will become a feature piece in any setting, instilling an interior with classical French elegance.
Swedish Green / Kolmården Marble.
Originating from Sweden, Kolmården marble is named after the area it is quarried in the Östergötland province. Used as far back as the 13th century, it is considered as one of the hardest marbles in the world.
Swedish Green was frequently used in French interiors of the period due to its variable green colour and attractive veining, with a fine-grained finish.
