About the Item

This beautiful antique Napoleon III style mantel was made in Belgium in the second half of the 19th century. It is a rare and strong piece because of its carved decoration in a very beautiful Fine Black marble from Belgium. It is a rare and large model very richly decorated. On the imposing jambs stand out two sculpted saddles, supported on Ionic capitals decorated with a small drapery with great mastery. Different friezes with rich vegetal or geometrical details decorate the straight forms of the piece. The shelf decorated with rudentures is centered by a medallion, which is framed by small finely carved flowers and scrolled acanthus leaves. The depth of the Belgian black marble highlights the finesse of the sculptures which can be seen when the light changes.
