About the Item

An exceptionally fine Neo-classical pine chimneypiece with original Verde Antico marble slips with a frieze carved in fine low relief centred with an urn flanked by foliate arabesques and ribbon tied bell drop swags, the aperture framed by a moulding of flutes and pearl beads, the stop fluted tapering pilasters terminating in blocks framing foliate rosettes beneath classical urns, the inverted breakfront corniced mantel shelf featuring tiers of acanthus, bead and lambs tongue carving c. 1790. The chimneypiece has its original Verde Antico slips bordered by bullnose statuary marble mouldings set on statuary plinth blocks. Condition excellent. England, 1790
