About the Item

An important and large scale French 19th century Louis XV st. Belgian Blue marble mantel. This impressive fireplace is supported on sumptuously carved marble feet before a recessed section for the future heart to be added. The jambs display bold scrolled designs with side motifs before the front top acanthus leaves and mottled inner bands which continue along the inner opening. The center of the mantel showcases a richly carved shell flanked by ruffled designs and top acanthus leaves. At both ends of the frieze are additional scrolls similarly to the central reserve above each jamb. The impressive and thick arbalest shaped top has a top and bottom mottled edge. Exceptional scale and presence throughout. Interior Dimensions: H: 30.5" L: 39.25" D: 16"
