About the Item

A very Fine and rare French 19th century Louis XV style giltwood carved Vernis Martin Stylefl fireplace screen. The rectangular carved giltwood panel surmounted with four circular oil paintings on panel depicting garden courting scenes, in the manner of François Boucher (1703–1770), each within a giltwood molded panel with a white-cream background. The top trim with giltwood carved ribbons and finials, the center panel with symmetrical moldings and corner rosettes, raised on twin finished supports. Circa: Paris, 1880. Measurs: Height: 33 7/8 inches (86.1 cm) Width: 42 1/8 inches (107 cm) Depth: 10 1/4 inches (26.1 cm).

    Repaired: Some minor age touch-ups and filling to gilt and carvings. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. A truly beautiful fireplace screen for summer use. Overall condition is very good with some minor age gilt wear (touched up) nicks. The paintings have some age craquelure. The reverse paintings have some flecks of paint loss. Please view all images.
