About the Item

A large and very well decorated French Empire Egyptian Revival fireplace surround, in well configured Antico Verde Marble with exceptional quality Ormolu mounts. The Jambs with tapering semi detached columns stood on square foot blocks with Claw Ormolu feet, surmounted by very well cast Sphinxes. The corner blocks are decorated with further Egyptian Pharaonic Motifs. The frieze with Female Cameo to centre with opposing Griffins. All beneath a large break front mantle. The drawing of this piece capturing Egyptian architecture and design so well. The ormolu decoration symbolising guardianship and divine protection. French circa 1830 Opening Sizes 116cm w X 96cm h
