About the Item
A mid 19th century Rococo revival chimney piece executed in superior Statuary white marble and profusely carved in high and low relief. The cantered jambs with large scrolled and beaded acanthus with a panel of carved oak leaf, surmounted by carved roses beneath a deep C scroll end blocks. The frieze with a large shell as the central cartouche topped with protruding scrolled acanthus and flanked again with roses. All beneath a large and generous deeply moulded serpentine mantel.
