About the Item

A large antique English cast iron and brass fire grate with an unusual decorative fireback and brass ball and claw feet. This late 19th century fire basket is a handsome example of traditional 19th century craftsmanship, the front legs drawing attention with their handcrafted wrought iron spiral finials. The fire back is most unusual, cast with two figures with backs to each other and arms raised - certainly a talking point for any chimneypiece!
