About the Item
A large and impressive Louis XVI style fireplace mantel in Italian Carrara marble. The scrolled console legs, with decorative carved ribbon twist, carved acanthus to top, carved scroll at bottom. The sides also with scrolled acanthus leaf. The frieze with square Patarae end blockings flanking a carved running Guilloche frieze. There are four different type of carved rosettes within and all inside a strung beaded fielded panel. Panelled side returns and all beneath a very large and generous mantle. An incredabily well carved piece from the early 19th century
