About the Item
A rare French mantelpiece dating from the end of the 17th century. Made in a purified Louis XIII style with perfect proportions. This type of design originated from wainscott pannels and doorframes. Their mouldings were adapted to frame the open fireplaces. This way the wooden panneling could run trough a complete room. Soon also stone was used and later on also in marble. After a short period the more ornate Louis XIV style took over. In a modern context these mantels work perfectly on their own because of it's timeless appearance.
Please note that this mantelpiece can be easily integrated as it stands on its own. It can be installed with only the front moulding visible or more forward.
Overall in great condition with a gorgeous pale cream color and patina.
