About the Item

A magnificent and large palatial antique French Louis XVI style white marble and gilt bronze mantle. The structure is composed of rectangular white marble blocks with a stepped cornice forming the shelf, supported by a projecting frieze and fluted jambs. The frieze is adorned with gilt bronze ornamentation, including a central panel featuring crossed flambeaux and floral swags, flanked by continuous circular medallions containing alternating rosettes and floral motifs. Each corner block is paneled and plain, emphasizing the applied gilt bronze decoration along the central sections. The vertical supports are designed as engaged fluted columns in white marble, wrapped with spiral gilt bronze bands and terminating in acanthus leaf cast gilt bronze bases set on square marble plinths. At the top, the capitals are enriched with gilt bronze upright foliage motifs resembling bundled reeds or feathers. The arrangement of decoration emphasizes symmetry and balance, with gilt beading running along the upper molding directly beneath the cornice.
