About the Item
This incredibly detailed English Regency style mantel is carved from statuary marble. Prominent and delicate flutings run the length of the apron and down each leg. Floral motifs sit above each jamb, anchored by pillars of fluting topped with an acanthus leaf as a timeless symbol of endurance, elegance, and vitality. In the center of the apron is another floral motif framed by a wreath, and flanked by two garlands. The shelf is carved with two grooves, carrying the theme of clean lines throughout the piece.
This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to Suite R on the 16th floor. A Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase.
This piece features a new hearth. Pictured still installed at the Waldorf Astoria, kindly confirm the condition before purchasing. Please note, this item is located in our Scranton, PA location.
