About the Item
This limestone Louis XVI French Regency style mantel was reclaimed from the Waldorf Astoria, and has been painted a pale yellow color. A floral frame decorates the apron, and floral motifs sit in the center and above each jamb. Fluting runs down each leg, transitioning to wheat, and finally to cabled fluting above the plinth. A classic design, this piece epitomizes "Louis Seize" - a style of architecture, furniture, decoration and art just before the French Revolution. Designs in this style hearkened back to the purity and grandeur of the art of the Ancient Greeks.
Stamped "Made in France," this antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to the M Suite on the 13th Floor. A Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase.
The pictured hearth is not included. Pictured still installed at the Waldorf Astoria, kindly confirm the condition before purchasing. Please note, this item is located in our Scranton, PA location.
