About the Item

Fill this decorative fontaine de lavabo with dried flowers, greenery, or seasonal decor for a charming wall accent. Crafted in Normandy, France circa 1860, this elegant two-part wall fountain is mounted on its original hand-carved oak backboard. The antique lavabo features a rectangular upper reservoir fitted with small brass spouts and topped with finialed lids, over a deep demilune basin with side handles. Originally, such pieces were used in French country homes or sacristies for ceremonial or practical handwashing after Mass, before later finding new life as decorative wall fountains or planters. The piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, showcasing a rich dark oak patina and warm, lustrous brass finish. A striking and versatile accent for a kitchen, powder room, or garden room. Measures: 22.75" W x 13" D x 68" H.
