About the Item

A striking and sculptural mid-19th century French Napoleon III iron daybed, sourced in the south of France. This piece features beautifully hand-wrought scrollwork with pronounced curves, tall backrests, and a richly detailed central medallion. The floral crest includes a deeply cast fruit and foliate motif, emblematic of the romantic revival aesthetic of the Second Empire. The entire frame shows a consistent, naturally oxidized surface in warm rust tones with remnants of its original green paint peeking through along the edges—lending it an authentic timeworn character. The daybed includes a full iron grid base and rests on casters, with three appearing to be original and one later replacement.The frame folds flat for ease of transport or storage.
