About the Item
Gorgeous mid-19th century authentic French Napoleon III iron daybed sourced from Provence, retaining its original blue painted surface with a soft, timeworn patina over exposed iron. This piece showcases hand-wrought ironwork in graceful scroll and curve motifs, reflecting the romantic revivalist spirit of the Second Empire. The design features elegantly arched arms, slender lines, and a rare cast floral medallion at center, depicting a lyre framed by laurel and trumpet forms—symbols of art and celebration. Traces of gold leaf remain around the flowers and medallion, a detail that hints at the piece’s original decorative richness. The daybed rests on delicate legs with original casters and includes a full iron grid base. Its folding frame allows it to collapse flat for easy storage or transport, adding practicality without sacrificing antique charm. Slight warping in the center of the frame is present, consistent with age and use, and does not affect its stability.
