About the Item

A striking example of Bjorn Wiinblad’s rare hibachi grill table for Rosenthal, Germany, circa 1960s. Designed as both a functional and decorative centerpiece, the table features a cylindrical stoneware base supporting a removable circular surround of hand-painted ceramic tiles in Wiinblad’s signature cobalt blue on white glaze. The intricate, geometric-meets-floral motif demonstrates Wiinblad’s distinctive graphic sensibility and blends seamlessly with Rosenthal’s refined craftsmanship. Originally designed as a hibachi or grill table, this example retains the original ceramic tile surround, which has been professionally restored, but is missing the metal central ash catcher and metal grill inserts. Even so, the table remains fully usable as a dining table, patio table, center table or game table. For grilling, new metal grates need to be added. The ceramic surface has excellent color depth and presents beautifully. Highly versatile, this piece works equally well in a Mid-Century Modern, Danish Modern, or Postmodern interior, and can also be incorporated into eclectic, Contemporary, or Scandinavian-inspired spaces. It makes a striking coffee table, conversation piece, or sculptural accent for a living room, sunroom, covered patio, or design-forward hospitality setting. MEASUREMENTS: H 27" x W 48" x D 48" Removable center piece is 19" diameter. CONDITION: Overall very good vintage condition with light age and wear throughout. Top was refinished and some repairs to ceramic tiles. The metal insert which holds the grates has prior losses from corrosion as can be seen in photos. Ready for immediate use as a dining, game or center table. To use for grilling, new metal grate inserts must be added.
