About the Item

Modeled after the ancient Roman Chair of State, this garden seat back is formed from the wings of chimera with lion faces, flanking a circular seat with relief decoration, all on a plinth base. A striking blend of classical mythology and early 20th-century craftsmanship, perfect as a garden focal point or indoor decorative element. Marked on base "D...a Cellai" and "Made in Italy 1256". This mark is consistent with marks from the Cellai workshop in Florence, active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and known for high-quality architectural and garden terracotta. Some restoration.
