About the Item

Jenkins Phipps stick and ball wicker photographers or portrait chair with asymmetrical scrolled right arm and fiddleheads, woven skirt, and woven beaded front legs. Jenkins-Phipps label on underside, dating this chair from between 1903 and 1918. Structurally sound with no breaks or losses and no restorations. Finish is original. We can restore or refinish or paint, as requested. Last two images show a similar chair that had been painted white. "The other rattan company in Wakefield, the A. D. Jenkin's and Company, evolved into the Jenkins-Phipps Company after Jenkins partnered with a salesman named Irvin E. Phipps, who left the Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company circa 1903. The new company sold out to Pierce Foley of Boston and New Jersey in the late spring of 1918. Under new ownership the factory in Wakefield expanded becoming the American Reed and Willow Company….."
