About the Item

A welded steel bistro/patio chair pair from France. All original wear and heavy developed patina to the sculptural rounded form. Wonderfully weighty and quality construction. Cleaned and treated with a sealant/protectant (May 2025). We love the idea of a single reading or meditative chair in a landscape, back garden, or greenhouse. These would also be a great stand for a large planter, or a nice chair on a smaller front porch where a bag of groceries could land while the front door is being opened or where a package could be left. The chairs are surprisingly comfortable, with the arms designed with the perfect ergonomic placement for comfort 23.5"W x 20"D x 35.75"H with an 18.75"H seat

Modernist Iron Strap Garden Armchairs Pair 1980s Salterini Style Brutalist MCM
By John Salterini, Mario Papperzini, Herbert Saiger, Russell Woodard, Francois Carre
Located in London, GB
A pair of gorgeous, impressive and rare Modernist iron strap vintage armchairs in wonderful, refinished condition. Likely made in the 1980s in continental Europe, these fabulously striking, assuredly robust and yet seductively sleek armchairs will add timeless sculptural elegance and bold sophistication to any outdoor setting. Impressively sized and reassuringly heavy, these stately armchairs are made of iron and due to their wide iron-strap seats and superbly sweeping backs are – rather surprisingly – extremely comfortable, even without a cushion! The gracefully flowing lines and over-curving back and arms are particularly stunning, and the large seats and broad backs make them the ideal statement garden chairs. Stylistically, the armchairs have an enhanced Post-Modernist 1980s assuredess to their more dainty design predecessors by Francoise Carré and Russell Woodard. Similar to Mario Papperzini for John Salterini and Herbert Saiger for Woodard’s more muscular 1970s iron strap chair...
