Handsome 1950-1960’s set of 6 Mid-Century Modern Tropitone Kahana stackable chaise lounges w/vinyl straps & powder coated aluminum frame. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, all frames have been cleaned with soap & water but have some scratches & signs of wear & the straps have some yellowing from sun exposure, lotions, & use. Also, when the chairs are stacked the vinyl straps stretch but when un-stacked the straps return to their original form. The color is somewhere between the current “Textured Sonora” and “Textured Shell” and they are conveniently STACKABLE!!! Whether on your patio, surrounding a firepit, aside the tiki bar, or lined along the poolside… these marvelous mid-century modern chaises are exactly what you need. Much like its island beach namesake, these Kahana vinyl strap chaise lounge chairs are ready to complete your outdoor paradise. Tropitone was founded in Sarasota, Florida in 1954 by Burt M. Baker, a retired Lockhead Engineer and executive at Grand Rapids Chair Company. Tropitone served the contract market, including hotels, motels, clubs, and resorts with high performing outdoor patio furniture. In the 1960’s they introduced powder coated aluminum finishes to the industry. Utilizing a multi-step wash process that ensures a lasting finish, Tropitone’s aluminum frames prevail under any environmental conditions. Tropitone also pioneered the technique of double-wrapping vinyl straps around the powder coated aluminum frame for extra durability, which continues today. In 1970’s they established operations in Irvine, California which provided a bi-coastal manufacturing to North American customers.
