Introducing a beautiful and refined Jizo Bosatsu stone statue, crafted during the mid-Edo period (around 1700–1850). This stone statue represents Jizo Bosatsu, a Buddhist bodhisattva known for his compassion and dedication to protecting people from suffering and disaster, especially children and travelers. Often depicted as a monk with a shaved head, Jizo is shown in a gentle prayer posture, with his hands pressed together at his chest. The statue has an elongated, vertical shape with a simple yet elegant design. Its quiet and understated presence embodies a refined beauty, distinct from lavish or ostentatious pieces. The serene smile on Jizo's face exudes warmth, guiding viewers into a state of peace and calm. The carving on the stone, though aged, remains well-preserved. Rare inscriptions on this amazing bell are dedications and patron names to the persons associated with the temple or shrine where this majestic bell once was suspended. At the top, the handle (ryûzu) is crafted in the form of two mirrored dragon heads. Around the upper portion of the bell, the pronounced bosses Fu (chi) are arranged in five rows of five. Lower sections are surrounded by embossed cartouches with a flower-shaped striking panel (tsuki'za). The attractive patina and some color variations are an authentic sign that this bell has actually hung outside the temple for quite some time and had been used functionally. History: Many large Japanese bronze temple bells were requisitioned and smelted by the government before and during WWII which make this early example a rare survivor.
