Wonderful Late 20th Century Mid-Century Modern Tropitone Kahana stackable chaise lounge w/vinyl straps & powder coated aluminum frame. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, all frames have been cleaned with soap & are in good stable condition but do have some nicks, scratches, & dings to the frame finish. The straps have some yellowing from sun exposure, lotions, & use. Also, when the chairs are stacked the vinyl straps stretch but when un-stacked the straps return to their original form. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Late 20th Century.

Tropitone was founded in Sarasota, Florida in 1954 by Burt M. Baker, a retired Lockhead Engineer and executive at Grand Rapids Chair Company. Tropitone served the contract market, including hotels, motels, clubs, and resorts with high performing outdoor patio furniture. In the 1960’s they introduced powder coated aluminum finishes to the industry. Utilizing a multi-step wash process that ensures a lasting finish, Tropitone’s aluminum frames prevail under any environmental conditions. Tropitone also pioneered the technique of double-wrapping vinyl straps around the powder coated aluminum frame for extra durability, which continues today. In 1970’s they established operations in Irvine, California which provided a bi-coastal manufacturing to North American customers. In the 80’s they released “Comfort is Key” cushions and sling seating. Tropitone sling seating has the perfect combination of clean lines, designer fabrics and carefree maintenance. We build elegant custom interior and exterior passage and entry doors with a Mid-Century Modern style. Pictured is an exterior entrance door 85" tall and 45" wide and because our doors are individually crafted they can be customized to meet any requirement for use as an interior or exterior door, single or double. They can be produced with all manner of hardware for commercial applications if needed which includes being fire-rated. All sales include pre-hung jambs and units are ready to be installed on-site.
Our doors are built superior to any production line series and all are handmade with no two the same.
Featured above our midcentury Starburst design with solid half inch by quarter inch solid brass bar raised over walnut on both sides of the door. The first 7 photos show this model door and the other photos show other doors we have produced in other configurations and finishes. We offer color blocking in any color desired or wood including oak, walnut, rosewood etc. and the bars can be produced from either brass, aluminum, colored aluminum or wood (walnut, ash, etc).

He was an American fashion designer known as Kasper. He studied English and advertising at New York University and fashion at the Parsons School of Design in New York from 1951–53 and l'Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in 1953. He left NYU to serve in the US Army in Europe. After World War II he enrolled at Parsons, where he became a protégé of milliner Fred Frederics. After graduating, he returned to Paris for two years developing his skills in design while working for Jacques Fath, Christian Dior, and Marcel Rochas. When he returned to the US, he worked for Frederics at Mr. John. He was also a famous art collector. He was an avid art collector, and in 2011, the Morgan Library and Museum devoted an exhibition, called “Mannerism and Modernism: The Kasper Collection of Drawings and Photographs,” to the designer.unnumbered copy of a run of 1000. With letter from Despont to his client. Mr. Despont was Associate Architect for the Centennial Restoration of the Statue of Liberty and has completed the restoration of Clayton, the Frick family mansion in Pittsburgh. Mr. Despont designed the Decorative Arts Galleries of the new J. Paul Getty Museum and, in collaboration with Richard Meier, was responsible for the interior design of the museum's sculpture and painting galleries. The office also completed the 50,000 square foot flagship store on Bond Street for Ralph Lauren. In the US, the firm designed the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue on East 63rd Street in New York and the flagship store for Harry Winston in Beverly Hills, California. Mr. Despont and his office have completed several very high end hotel projects. Among them are the renovation of the Carlyle Hotel in New York, Claridge's and The Dorchester in London, and Boca Raton Resort & Club in Florida. Current hotel projects include the renovation of the Ritz Paris, the Dorchester Collection's new 45 Park Lane Hotel in London, The Chatwal in New York, and the Divan Hotel in Istanbul. volume with its own dustjacket. Handsome antique Victorian dresser of solid walnut and burl walnut with white marble top and black painted turned wood and brass teardrop pulls. It is in wonderful antique condition with an amazing antique patina. The candle shelves were broken and there was a small piece of molding missing on the lower left side of the mirror frame, but the shelves have been repaired beautifully and the molding carved and replaced by our experienced staff. There are other smalls signs of its long life and use including some staining on the antique white marble. We love its warm antique age patina. The mirror glass is clear but old. Please see photos, circa mid-late 19th century.
